What's up... I have just gotten back from a wonderfully relaxing day at Paradise Cove-- a beautiful area where tans are even and waves are plentiful. Everything there, for a five dollar fee, can be perfectly enjoyed-- even the FRICKIN' ENORMOUS WAVES. Now, this is a story of two girls and one wave.
You see, in Paradise Cove, there constantly radical waves. They rise and slam against the Earth like sequoias growing and being chopped down. And thus, when swimming, the ultimate fear isn't necessarily Jaws; it's getting sucked under. Now, having just returned from a week of bronzing my skin and swimming in fifty two degree water, the waves of California felt pretty good.
Not peeing, by the way. Just saying.
But the water was still pretty cold. At first, I looked like this:
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But after a while, it smoothed out.
And the came...
DUN DUN DUN...
THE BIG ONE...
This giant freaking wave came crashing down on me. The sound of it underwater was like having airplane engines revved in my ear. I tumbled along underwater for like forty-five seconds, until I was finally washed up on the beach like some pathetic jellyfish. Genna, my friend whose mom had taken us (thanks, Jackie!), ran over to me and asked me if I was okay. I lay there for a sec and then...
I'M OKAY!!!!!! *thumbs up*
Well, anyways, as always, here are some real-life photos from the scene of the crime:
Shells... Prettyful shells...
Dedicated to Genna Miller; your hair is beautiful the way it is. Enjoy every aspect of it.
I went to Paradise Cove in 1977 with Sierra Ski & Pack. I got hit by the same big wave!
ReplyDeleteDear Anna,

Dear Uncle X.v,
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It hurts a lot! I can't wait to go to the beach again... and hopefully not run into the big waves... =D
wow!! thats gotta hurt. well, you had fun though
ReplyDeleteI remember Paradise Cove well. Uncle Kenny G and I used to go there with Sierra Ski & Pack summer camp. This place had the reputation in the 70s of being one of the best beaches (people also liked Zuma; Temescal (aka Cheap Beach), not so much.) I think Paradise Cove may also be the place I suffered my first body surfing wipeout, swallowing water, near vomit, etc. Good times, good times. Glad you enjoyed yourselves.
